Saklıyaz Roof Restaurant, an integral part of Saklıyaz Hotel in Datça, Turkey, provides guests with a captivating experience through its strategic positioning, offering a 360-degree view of the Mediterranean Sea. The design emphasizes a harmonious connection with nature, evident in the planned reflection pool at the roof’s edge. This pool not only mirrors the expansive sea but also extends its beauty into the restaurant area, enhancing the overall experience. Concrete daybeds on the pool and a sunken seating arrangement inside contribute to maximizing the enchanting natural surroundings for visitors.
To provide shelter from the region’s intense sunlight, the roof is covered with locally made straws. This material serves a practical purpose by offering protection against powerful sun rays and aligns with the rustic ambiance of the surroundings. Adding an artistic touch, continuous fabric strips hanging from the ceiling create a dynamic sculpture, gracefully responding to Datça’s strong wind currents.
The architectural coherence is sustained with cement finishes, seamlessly integrated throughout the hotel and the roof. A humble material palette, featuring wood and rattan, further contributes to the overall simplicity and cohesion of the design.
