Location Artvin, Turkey

Architect Berke Debensason
Contractor  Siska İnşaat

SMD House is a multi-level residence located in a village setting in Artvin, where interior design draws directly from the surrounding landscape. The project creates a calm and textural living environment by pairing contemporary lines with natural materials. Wood plays a central role throughout, not only for its warmth and timelessness but also for its connection to the rural context, grounding the home in its environment and daily rhythms.

A sculptural wooden volume fully wraps the staircase, forming a spatial threshold between private and shared areas. This element serves as both divider and anchor, while introducing a moment of crafted presence at the heart of the house. On the main floor, the living area is structured into soft zones—dining, fireplace lounge, and TV corner—each defined by subtle variations in proportion, function, and texture. The kitchen reinterprets classical detailing with fluted fronts, open shelving, and domestic warmth, offering a tactile contrast to the home’s restrained architecture.

Muted surfaces and layered textures carry through every level. Deeper hues in the guest suite evoke intimacy, while the upper floor features a lighter palette for bedrooms and a study. Custom-built elements and integrated lighting reinforce the coherence of the interior, balancing comfort with precision. SMD House offers a measured interpretation of rural domesticity—quiet, tactile, and enduring.
